Surf & Turf.
Four days four nights Wild Coast. Three days two nights game reserve. Day One. We meet up with our horses at Kei Mouth village, on the banks of the great Kei River. The first day is an easy 12 Km ride to the Trenneries hotel from the Kei river. We ride via Nongqawases pool to Trenneries where we stop for lunch. After lunch we take a boat trip and hike up the Qolora river to the gates, a spectacular rock formation with deep pools. We return to the hotel to unwind on unspoiled beaches or around the swimming pool where hospitality is the order of the day.
Day Two.
Today two sees us depart after breakfast from Trenneries to the Kobonqabariver via the Jackaranda shipwreck. Depending on the tide and if you feel youre up to it, it will be your first experience of swimming your horse through one of the many rivers. We ride a short distance from here to Wavecrest Hotel , beautifully situated at Kobonqaba river mouth. We overnight here, having met up with the back up vehicle.
Day Three.
After breakfast we saddle up and cross the Nxaxo river riding along the beach for Cebe nature and marine reserve. Here we unsaddle our horses and have a packed picnic lunch under the giant milkwood trees overlooking the sea. It is not unusual to watch the Dolphins surfing the waves in the bay. After lunch we saddle up and ride inland over the hills to a traditional Xhosa village. Here you will be able to interact with the villagers and learn more about their way of life, traditions and customs. We return to Wavecrest riding along the beach. Sundowners are taken on the deck watching the sun set over the estuary.
Day four.
The following morning we retrace our tracks back to Trenaries Hotel. We recross the Kobonqaba river and head inland riding over rolling grass covered hills and through local villagers. After lunch at the hotel if you feel adventurous enough we can do some abseiling/rappelling at the gates or we could take the horses down to the beach for a swim in the surf.
Day Five.
After breakfast we saddle up and ride along the beach to the Pont where we cross the Kei river. Here we load the horses onto a truck and leave for Inkwenkwezi private game reserve. After lunch and settling into the tented Safari camp, we go for a short ride to loosen up the horses. Return to the camp and have sundowners on the deck overlooking the Bulura valley. Dinner in the Lapa.
Day Six.
Saddle up our horses early and ride out to the plains where we can expect to see the herds of plain game such as Bontebok, Zebra, Springbok, Wildebeest and Eland. Here there are also opportunities to canter amongst the herds of game. Return to the Lapa for breakfast. After breakfast we ride out into the deep valleys which are shaded by dense bush and trees. Here we can expect to see the shy bushbuck, the smallest antelope in the world, the blue duiker and plenty of birdlife. Return to the camp for lunch. In the late afternoon we will ride out to a waterhole to see the animals coming inn for their evening drink. Sundowners on the deck and a traditional dinner cooked over an open fire.
Day Seven.
This morning you have the opportunity of either sleeping in late or waking up early and going for a short ride before breakfast and being returned either to your hotel or East London airport.
NB! These rides are very flexible and we are able to change the itinerary so as to spend more days in the game reserve and less on the Wild Coast, or extend the overall length of the trip to have an equal number of days in the game reserve and the Wild Coast.
